Sheffield Individual Championships

Tournament Controller Geoff Brown advises, “I'm (at last) making an effort to get the Individuals up and running this season.”

The event is to be run as a 5-round Swiss with rounds held roughly monthly from January to May 2025.

Embedded in the single Swiss competition are not just the Sheffield Championship itself of which the winner wins the Bruce Trophy (won last year by Chris Shephard), there are trophies (akin to grading prizes in congresses) which provide for the weaker participants to vie for

the Holroyd Trophy (won last year by Jay Ryalls)

and the Shapero Trophy (won last year by Elliott Spencer).

After receiving their pairings for a given round, players make their own arrangements to play, typically at Black’s home or Black’s club (as Black has choice of venue).

Geoff asks for all entries to reach him no later than 24th December 2024.

Gukesh D has just won the World Championship, so here is the way for you to build up to following in his footsteps!
