Crabb Shield 2024

 

The annual rapid-play bunfight for the Crabb Shield is less than 3 weeks away, and you are exhorted to enter.  (See printable pdf flyer here.)

 

 

The event is being run by Jonathan Arnott
on Saturday July 20th (arrive please for 11.45 a.m.)
at the Sheffield Chess Centre, 329a Coleford Road, Sheffield, S9 5NF
next door to the Furniture Warehouse

with “Sheffield Chess Centre” displayed at ground level facing the road.

 

There are to be 5 rounds
with a time control of 15 minutes per game with a 10-second increment per move

 

This traditional event is for players in the Sheffield area
(or who compete in the Sheffield & District Chess Association league).

 

Entry fee is £10.

 

Modest cash/book prizes are envisaged depending on number of entries.

Parking

 

Free parking on street is available,
and the top half of the Furniture Warehouse car park can also be used (space permitting).

 

How to get there by Public Transport:

 

The no.18 bus (closest stop: Coleford Road/Greenland Road) stops just a couple of minutes’ walk from the Sheffield Chess Centre.  (Roughly hourly.)

 

The 52 bus route is frequent from the city centre, and the Main Road/Greenland Road stop in Darnall shopping area is 10 minutes’ walk from the Sheffield Chess Centre.

 

Finally, the Arena/Olympic Legacy Park tram stop is 15 minutes’ walk from the Sheffield Chess Centre, and is served by the Yellow Route and Tram Train.
