Chess & Pizza Night

Jonathan Arnott has sent out today an e-mail which may be of interest (especially if you like pizzas) and reads as follows:

Hi everyone,

I'm just emailing people I've been in touch with about chess.  As you know, the Sheffield Chess Centre is now open.

Tomorrow night (Fri 28), we're doing a Chess & Pizza night.  No need to be a member or anything (vague expectation that non-members will buy a pizza).  Feel free to turn up, have a look round the venue, play some casual games, etc.

We're open from 6pm at 329A Coleford Road, Sheffield, S9 5NF and will be selling freshly-made stonebaked pizzas.

We'll put the latter stages of some of the current British Championships games on the TV screens in the cafe, which should make for some interesting discussion.  Two players who you might know from the Sheffield League - Andrew Ledger IM and Peter Shaw - are playing in the event.

Otherwise, just turn up and play some casual chess. Hopefully will be a decent social event.

Our website is still 'Coming Soon', but you can keep up to date with our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/sheffieldchesscentre

Best wishes,

Jonathan

And now for the webmaster’s joke about Long John Silver’s parrot:

Long John Silver’s parrot was agitated and squawking on its perch while holding its wings to its stomach.  Long John asked what the problem was and got the reply:

“Pizzas I’ve ate”

(It helps if you’ve read R. L. Stevenson’s Treasure Island and know the parrot tended to say, “Pieces of Eight”, referring to the Spanish coin of the C16th.)
