16/06/2021 “Hope Valley” at Kelham Island
Jonathan Arnott is organising the Hope Valley tournament for 2021 as an outdoor over-the board event, with necessary changes to the traditional format occasioned by the Covid pandemic. On-line entry form has been set up at https://form.jotform.com/211502715808047. (No closing date/time for entries seems to be given.) Entries need to be made on line.
Date: Sunday 27/06/2021
Start time: 6.30pm, aiming to finish no later than 9.30pm as the venue closes at 10.
Time control: 5 minutes/game
Venue: We will be using a covered outdoor venue which is relatively quiet as far as outdoor venues go, but don't expect silence either. We have use of a dedicated courtyard area outside the Saw Grinders Union cafe, Globe Works, Penistone Road, Sheffield, S6 3AE. The venue is licensed, primarily an eating place rather than drinking, but serves craft beers, cocktails etc.
Entry fee: £5, of which 70%-80% to be distributed as prize money and 20%-30% to cover hand sanitiser, disinfectant, card fees due to payment in advance so we know exact numbers, etc.
Maximum capacity: 30
Covid restrictions: Our aim is to be reasonable and respectful. Chess has a wide variety of ages/health status/vaccination status, views about Covid, etc.
Please either wear a mask at the board when in close contact with an opponent, or take a free home Covid test before arriving, or both. Please sanitise the pieces and the clock once you have finished your game. Please be respectful of people's personal space.
