Rotherham
Online Spring Rapid
Chris Shephard followed up his success
in the Winter Rapid tournament by also clinching victory in the recently
completed Spring Rapid championship.
The Sheffield
Nomads player won on tie-break with 5/6 after beating his nearest rival
Barnby Dun's Peter Catt in the first round.
Catt profited from
a more favourable draw after his first-round loss before edging a close
game against Deji Jeje, from the Sheffield based SASCA club, in the
last round.
Jeje, who was the
only player to beat Shephard, finished third on tie-break with 4/5 ahead of
Nathaniel Holroyd-Doveton (Rotherham), Bryan Wood
(Hillsborough) and Oliver Brennan (Rotherham).
Twenty-seven
players took part in the open-to-all competition which was played at the
rate of 15 minutes, plus a 10-seconds-per-move increment.
The game between
the top two seeds - a win for Shephard over Richard Allis (Moortown) - can
