2nd South Yorkshire Rapidplay Online Open

Sheffield's Oskar Hackner clinched victory by half a point in the second South Yorkshire Rapidplay Online Open, in which 40 players took part.

The tournament, organised by Rotherham Online, was played with a time limit of 15 mins + 10 secs-per-move increment.

Hackner, from the SASCA club, was unbeaten in the six-round tournament conceding a draw in round three against Sheffield University's James Luong when he briefly lost his internet connection.

Luong and Tom Carroll, also Sheffield University, finished second and third respectively on tie-break after both had scored 5/6.

Huddersfield's Greg Eagleton had an excellent tournament and led most of the way before losing to Hackner in the last round.

He finished fourth on tie-break ahead of B M Sampathkumar who recently joined Rotherham Online from India and was making his debut in the competition.
