(a report by Peter Catt)
Top
seed Oskar Hackner won the recently ended 7th Rotherham Online Championship
for the second time in five attempts.
Hackner,
from the Sheffield-based SASCA club, clinched a narrow victory on tie-break
from previous winner Peter Ackley (Chesterfield), after both had finished
on 5½/6, having drawn their fourth round game.
Grantham’s
Paul Cumbers, who lost a fluctuating and very entertaining game against
Hackner in round five, finished third with five points.

rounds, attracted a total of 41 entries and were played with a rapid time
limit.
Peter
Ackley won the Rapid Premier on tie-break from York RI’s Richard Allis,
both on 4½/5, with SASCA’s Deji Jeje, 3/5, finishing third.
Sheffield
Nomads stalwart Geoff Frost was a convincing winner of the Rapid Major with
4½/5, ahead of Rotherham’s John Baker and Hillsborough’s Ben Wood, both 3½.
Tie-breaks
were needed to settle the highly competitive Rapid Intermediate which was
won by Sheffield Deaf’s Steve Gibson, ahead of Aughton’s Joe Primrose and
Michael Freund, from Worksop, all finishing on 3½/5.
Dale
Daykin finished first in the Rapid Minor with 5/5, ahead of Huddersfield’s
Craig Sharpe, 4, and Mark Lomas, 2½.
