'Hope
Valley' Quickplay Tournament
and
a reminder about ECF membership
Gen, Sec. Geoff Brown
has sent out the following notice of this year’s “Hope Valley” Quickplay,
reminding people about ECF Membership as the opportunity presents itself.
For those too young to remember, this was a highly successful event run in
the past by Hope Valley Chess Club. Whilst that club is no more, this event
was adopted by the S&DCA decades ago.
Dear
club secretary, team captain, Exec Committee member
Please
pass the following notice to your members who may be interested. It's
an ideal opportunity to check out Jonathan Arnott's new Chess Centre.
The
traditional end-of-season blitz competition for players in the Sheffield
League will be held on Monday June 19th. This is the
competition which used to be run in Hope Valley, and now takes place in
Sheffield. Following a brief hiatus due to a certain pandemic, this social
tournament for players of all abilities in the Sheffield league is now
back.
- The venue will
be the new Sheffield Chess Centre, 329A Coleford Road,
Sheffield, S9 5NF. To find the venue, you should turn off at
McDonalds onto Coleford Road. We'll be about 300 yards or so up the
hill on the left-hand side.
- We're hoping
to have some signage up by then - but if our suppliers don't deliver
in time, we're in the same building as "Boss Box Fit".
- Please
bring £5.00 entry fee in cash with you on the day.
- Please let
Jonathan Arnott know in advance by email at jwauk02@aol.com if you
will be entering the competition. Information needed: full name.
Please also give an ECF rating or membership number if possible.
- Format: A
7-round Swiss competition, with 5 minutes each on the clock for the
game. The top four players in the event traditionally
then play a semi-final and final to determine the winner of the
competition.
- Prizes paid
depending on entries, but usually small cash prizes for 1st, 2nd and
3rd places plus at least one rating price.
- Snacks and hot
and cold drinks will be available for sale in the cafe area.
- We are hoping
that the DGT boards will be connected in time, so that the
semi-final and final can be broadcast live on the television screens.
- Arrive 7.15pm
with your entry fee (correct change appreciated please - again,
we don't know whether the credit card machine will be
fully working in time) ready for a 7.30pm start.
- For entries on
the day (if we have space for you) please arrive by 7pm.
I would
also like to remind clubs that the end of this month is the last
opportunity for players to purchase ECF 2022/23 membership. The
Association will be fined for any non-member who has played four or more
times in league or cup matches during this period. That fine will be
passed on to the club involved. I don't intend to mention names in
this open message but I can count 9 players on the LMS system that will
attract such a fine. To check if this will affect your club then visit LMS,
click on the Reports tab at the top, and then Non Members.
If
anyone has any queries then feel free to contact me.
