22-Board Simultaneous Display by Fred Dewhirst Yates, Oriental Café, Rotherham, Wednesday, 28th March, 1923.
The British champion, F. D. Yates, gave a simultaneous display at the Oriental Café, Rotherham, on Wednesday, 28/03/1923. He was opposed by twenty-two members of Rotherham Chess Club. Play lasted 4 hours. Yates won 17 games. Ex-Rotherham Champion A. R. Fleming won his game, while E .J. Griffith, F. R. Brown, S. P. Ludbrook and R. Dewar drew their games. Yates next gave such a display in Rotherham in 1928.

The turnout in Sheffield to play against the British Champion was somewhat disappointing as regards numbers, but the evening was nevertheless regarded as successful and enjoyable. Yates won 13 games. W. Batley, E. H. Linfoot and W. Knowles won their games, while E. Weston and F. Ogden drew their games.
