40-board Simultaneous Display by Capablanca, Liberal Club, Bradford, Tuesday, 7th October, 1919.
Capablanca gave a 40-board simultaneous display at Bradford Liberal Club on Tuesday 07/10/1919. Earlier the same week he had given a similar display in Leeds, where he had won all forty games.
Walter Barber, Lord Mayor of Bradford, entertained Capablanca to a lunch at which the other guests included various officers of Bradford Chess Club: Harry Sowden (president), H. L. Brook (secretary), G. Terry (treasurer), J. W. Morton (captain). Another guest was club member J. W. Perkins of Menston, who was Capablanca's host during his stay in Bradford.
Of the 40 games played, Capablanca won 35, drew 2, and lost 3. The winners among his opponents were Edward Albert Lassen (q.v. for score of the game), W. Clough and Lovell Edward Williams. Those securing draws were C. W. Roberts and J. W. Morton. One Bradford loser was James Wickstead Perkins (q.v. for score of the game).
The following day Capablanca gave a similar display in Sheffield.
