Robinson’s Café, John William Street, Huddersfield,

Saturday, 25/09/1915

Henry Ernest Atkins, who had moved to Huddersfield to take up the post of principal at Huddersfield College in 1909, gave a simultaneous display in Huddersfield on 25/09/1915.  It was the occasion of the re-opening of the club for the new season, under the presidency, for the year, of H.E. Atkins, who succeeded Thomas Rothery (brother of W U Rothery q.v.).  One of those present was John Watkinson, who had been an active member of the club for 63 years.

H E Atkins, as president, entertained those present to tea, and then gave a simultaneous display against 18 opponents, defeating all of them!

His opponents were:

J Charlesworth

H Williams

W Halstead

A W Parker

L England

J Calvers

F Taylor

L H Hirst

J Hinchliffe [sic]

Rev. W McNeill

F M Bassano

C F Arnold

T Rothery

J Millward

H Mellor

H Schofield

L Denham

W Norrie

“J. Hinchliffe” was presumably John Elliott Hinchliff.
