1892: Blackburne in Sheffield |

Joseph Henry Blackburne paid a visit to Sheffield Athenaeum Chess Club in early February 1892.
On Friday, 05/02/1892, giving a simultaneous display (with sight of the boards) in which he took on 15 opponents, winning 11 games and drawing 3, with a final one being abandoned and effectively drawn.
On Saturday 06/02/1892 gave a blindfold simultaneous display in which he took on 8 opponents, winning 4 games, drawing three, with one unfinished game being left abandoned. Play ran from 5.15 p.m. to midnight, with only a single 15-minute break. Blackburne’s opponents, their results &c. were as follows:
S B Slack had seemed to be having somewhat the better of things in his game, but at 11.20 p.m. Blackburne announced mate in five. Neither his opponent nor any of the spectators could see the mate, and when it had unfolded, it was greeted with loud applause.
