Despite Sheffield turning out a good percentage of its strongest players, their opponents could call on a large number of the Lancashire county players, as Lancashire’s strength lay primarily in the Manchester and Liverpool chess clubs. One game was unfinished at the close, and was left for adjudication after the event, leaving the score at close of play a 9-3 victory to Manchester.
