Played at Leeds Chess Club, Leuchter’s Restaurant, Bradford, on Saturday, 08/04/1876, over 10 boards, 3 games per board (time permitting).
This was the return match to the 1876 Leeds v Bradford match. As it was played on a Saturday, it was feasible to aim for 3 games on each board, rather than just the 2 in the earlier match. The Leeds Mercury of Tuesday 11/04/1876 carried a report, which conceded that Bradford had been hampered by the unavoidable absent of some of their stronger players (), while Leeds were able to field a strong team.
The results, as recorded by the Mercury but with “Mr.” removed throughout and board numbers added, were as follows:
Thus Bradford lost by 9½-15½ to Leeds.
Once more there was a severe lack of initials, and a curious repeated omission of “d” from the end of “Fieldsend”. Identities of the players, were inferable, would seem to be as follows:
