The report in the Leeds Mercury of 06/10/1873, of the Leeds Chess Club opening meeting of 1873-74, on Thursday 03/10/1873, it was mentioned that the chief event of the preceding season had been the playing of two correspondence games with Leicester Chess Club. Leeds had won, though whether that was with two wins or a win and a draw was not stated. Further detail is difficult to uncover.
