Played at the Assembly Rooms, George Hotel, Huddersfield, on Saturday, 29/05/1869, over 5 boards, 2 game per board.
This inter-club match took place during the fourth annual meeting of the West Yorkshire Chess Association, and was only the second such match to take place at such a meeting, the previous one being that in 1856 between Leeds and Huddersfield, at the first WYCA meeting. Such matches were not in fact a usual feature of these meetings.
The result of the match as reported in the Huddersfield Examiner of 05/06/1869 was as follows:
As is so often the case, one cannot tell whether, on boards where both players scored 1, both games were won and lost or both were drawn. Other reports, such as that in the Bradford Observer of 03/06/1869, are no clearer on that point.
